Block an IP Address Using cPanel

Let’s learn how to block an IP address using the cPanel IP Blocker feature. This feature allows you to block an IP or IP addresses range to prevent them from accessing your site. You can also use a fully qualified domain name instead of IP address. So you can use this feature to block an unwanted user or domain name.

Let’s see exact steps you have to follow to block IP address/ domain name in cPanel.

Step 1. Login to your cPanel and access IP Blocker Feature located under the security section.

Step 2. Blocking an IP address or domain name.

You can enter IP addresses in various formats as follows :

  • Single IP Address – this will block a single IP address.
    Example: 192.168.0.1
  • Range – this will block a specified range of IP address from accessing your website.
    Example: 192.168.0.1-192.168.0.40
  • Implied Range – this will block a specified range of IP addresses from accessing your website, this is an alternative format to the Range format.
    Example: 192.168.0.1-40
  • CIDR Format – this will block a specific subnet of the IP address.
    Example: 192.168.0.1/32
  • An implied IP address implies IP address of 192..., where each represents a positive whole number. If you enter 192., the cPanel system will block the access from any IP address that begins with 192.
    Example: 192.

Here, you just have to enter an IP address or domain name in the given text box and click on Add button. Afterward, you will see a confirmation message on the window.

Press the Go Back button that will take you back to the previous cPanel window.

Now you will see the IP address added to Currently blocked IP addresses list.

How to unblock an IP?

In the future, if you want to unblock an IP just click on Delete under the Actions section in the Currently blocked IP addresses list. Then cPanel will ask you for confirmation if you want to remove the IP from the blocked list. Once you confirmed cPanel will delete the IP from the list.

To verify this, go back to the previous window by pressing the Go Back button and you will see the IP is no longer listed in the Currently blocked IP addresses list.
